Director

Location: Exeter
Salary: DOE

Main purpose

Ensure that the team is engaged, utilised and continually developed, and that the client experience is exceptional. Maintain growth in revenues and opportunities for the team, whilst continuing to identify ways for the company to streamline processes internally and reduce risk, where possible.

Duties & key responsibilities

  • Running a substantial client portfolio (with a high proportion within the property sector).
  • Providing value added advisory services to own client portfolio and outside your portfolio if needed, including highly complex tax advisory assignments.
  • Reviewing work (tax and accounts) for the team members.
  • Winning work for the business through effective client growth plans and/or new client leads.
  • Being the lead on new prospect meetings and subsequent client proposals.
  • On-boarding new clients, including prescriptive service level agreements.
  • Manage workload timings and resourcing of a growing client portfolio.
  • Coach and develop junior team members of the team.
  • Effective and appropriate delegation of duties to more junior members of the team.
  • Oversee the team financials; chargeable time, recoveries and billings.
  • Interact across the business to form a strong management peer group that communicate and share knowledge around key issues impacting business performance.
  • Develop own network of contacts/professionals that are additive to existing firm relationships.
  • Utilise contacts/professional network to support/bolster the client service where applicable.

General responsibilities

  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • To act in accordance with the business’ values.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in legislation and technology to provide support and training both to the internal team and clients alike.
  • Maintain the highest level of technical competence and own CPD. Apply in response to clients needs.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to systems – working as part of the wider team to improve the client overall experience.
  • Ensure the team are following ongoing AML procedures.

Skills & abilities

  • Proficient in accounting software.
  • Ability to communicate with senior management and client, explaining points clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to coach and develop other team members.    
  • Ability to deal with conflict resolution, both internally and with clients.
  • Ability to recognise and manage risk.
  • Ability to present.

Knowledge & experience

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA or ACCA) and CTA (or 5 years plus relevent post accounting qualification experience).
  • Deep and authoritative expertise across advisory and complex technical matters.
  • Strategic oversight of a substantial client portfolio, including ownership of key relationships and major assignments.
  • Experience with property sector clients.
  • Consistent track record of originating and securing new business, driving revenue growth and expanding service lines.
  • Active contribution to firm-wide strategy, market positioning and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Leadership of multiple teams or service areas, setting standards for technical excellence and commercial performance.
  • Mentor and sponsor to senior leaders, shaping succession planning and future capability within the practice.
