GDPR Update

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force in the UK and across all the member states of the EU on 25 May 2018, is the biggest shake-up to Europe’s privacy laws for 25 years.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force in the UK and across all the member states of the EU on 25 May 2018, is the biggest shake-up to Europe’s privacy laws for 25 years.

It will strengthen and ultimately replace the existing Data Protection Act (1998) and is designed to protect the personal data and privacy of citizens across Europe. GDPR will not be affected by the UK’s exit from the EU.

This means that all businesses that hold and process personal information will need to have appropriate processes and policies in place for handling this type of data.

How is Peplows preparing for GDPR?

Peplows has always taken managing data extremely seriously. We are already compliant with the Data Protection Act and our compliance with GDPR will build on this foundation. We have been working across all areas of our organisation, and with our suppliers, to make further improvements ahead of 25 May.

To ensure we are compliant with GDPR, we have or will be:

  • Training all our staff on the new regulations
  • Updating our processes and policies for privacy and data protection
  • Introducing a portal (a secure, simple and direct way of sharing and accessing documents) for all exchanges of personal and confidential data via the internet
  • Removing old and obsolete records
  • Reviewing IT security and making improvements where necessary
  • Reviewing and improving marketing processes
