With an academic background in business studies, Paul joined the Exeter office of one of the major regional firms of Chartered Accountants in 1977. By 1980 he had progressed to the position of manager, working closely with the then senior partner on a wide range of corporate and non-corporate clients.
After joining Peplows in 1982, with the benefit of a broad range of practical experience, Paul commenced formal training as a Chartered Accountant in 1989, qualified in 1992 and progressed to partner in 1995. He established the firm’s Exeter office in 1999 and continues to head the team operating out of Exeter.
The majority of his time in the profession has been spent working closely with a number of the firm’s larger owner managed businesses and over the years he has accumulated considerable practical experience in a wide range of industries and commercial sectors, including the motor trade, manufacturing, IT, transport, charities and the service sector. Currently he is responsible for a number of specialist clients in the hotels and leisure, financial services and healthcare sectors.
With practical experience in taxation, information technology, raising finance, acquisitions and disposals, Paul has assisted many clients with the sometimes complex issues faced by businesses, referring to specialist colleagues and external sources as necessary, but always remaining involved to ensure advice is given in context. His long established and close working relationship with many of his clients make him the first port of call when they have opportunities or face problems and difficult decisions. He enjoys working with new ambitious businesses and believes strongly that the right advice taken at the right time is the key to mitigating the majority of the risks associated with new and growing businesses.
In his spare time Paul enjoys good food, good wine, playing bad golf and is a season ticket holder at Sandy Park.
